December Box is Mark A. Williams' multi-disciplinary design and fabrication studio in Brooklyn, New York.
For over 25 years, the studio has served as an invaluable resource for members of the design trades, artists and private clients on projects requiring its unique ability to merge art, design, and science, and often discretion (he has been referred to as "a secret weapon wielded by in-the-know New York City architects and interiors designers"). The studio has and continues to consult gallerists, collectors, makers, celebrities and students alike, in highly collaborative relationships.
December Box's work is rooted in broad materials research, thoughtful engineering and the interplay between traditional forms and contemporary production techniques. The studio strives to make playful, useful things imbued with grace and honesty.
Mark A. Williams is perhaps best known for his bronze dimmers (which were long carried by BDDW at their Crosby Street showroom), as well as for launching and heading BDDW's upholstery division in Philadelphia.
Born and raised in Bennington, Vermont, Williams studied fashion and sculpture at Pratt Institute and subsequently trained in art fabrication, model making, traditional cabinetry and installation before establishing December Box in the late 1990s. He know lives in New York City and shares a studio at the Brooklyn Navy Yard with his partner, muse and sometimes collaborator Mary Chan of Studio Bartleby.
December Box will be introducing its long awaited inaugural collection of forms in the spring of 2022.
